Mu-In Hotel

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and getting around is easy from here. Kaohsiung Main Station is close, with good transport connections. The person who checked me in was really nice and helpful.

Some of the staff were great, though others weren't polite. The place was clean enough, despite what I'd read, but toilet paper and shower gel were often gone, and there were no towels available. People were smoking in the shared bathroom during my stay. It's conveniently located, although some shady people hang around the area. It's an economy hotel, but they could do better.

I never booked through Booking.com, and I added my receipts in the updates to the hotel's response. I booked well in advance through Agoda and understood that I would pay at the hotel when I arrived. I came prepared to pay by card or cash. The hotel had messaged me through Agoda to say reception was open only until 10:00 PM, and I replied that I would be there at 9:32 PM. I arrived at that time, but nobody was at reception. When we got in touch, I was told they wouldn't take a card payment and was asked to send my card details through the app so they could process it. I felt uneasy sharing them in a messaging app that I hadn't used to make the booking. If Agoda or Booking.com made an error, other guests could run into the same problem unless it's fixed. Nobody wants that after spending hours on a plane for a dream trip. There's no way to fix what happened to me now, so I'm sharing it to let people decide if they're willing to risk the same situation. Thank you, and rest assured. I arrived at Mu-in Hotel in Kaohsiung at 9:32 PM, within the stated check-in hours, which ran until 11 PM, and found the front desk empty. When I contacted the receptionist, she said my card “hadn’t gone through” and asked for my details through the app, although my Agoda booking said I could pay in person by card. After I challenged that, she said my reservation “didn’t exist,” even though I had confirmation. I sent a screenshot of the booking, and she canceled it straight away. It felt dishonest, unsafe, and unprofessional. I didn't feel secure staying there, so I looked for another hostel for the night. I'm sharing this to warn other travelers: avoid this hotel!

We couldn't get into our room until 3:30, which is a ridiculous check-in time. The location was good, but getting our bags upstairs was a struggle, especially since there's no elevator. We're a young couple in our late 20s and had to haul everything up three flights. It wouldn't be practical for older or disabled guests either. Luggage storage was just an open cabinet by the reception and the front doors, accessible to anyone walking in during the day. You don't need a keycard or door code until after 10. We politely asked the receptionist to keep a small bag with our passports and work laptop behind the desk, but she refused and told us to leave it out or carry it with us. She was no help at all. There was noise from other rooms and people checking out through the nights, so I didn't get one decent night's sleep. Then drilling started right beside our room at 9 in the morning and carried on for hours. Staff were rude and seemed not to care. Absolutely ridiculous 🤯😤
