Enjoy Summer

The hotel spa was great, and the kids enjoyed the game room. The food, though, was very average compared with what I’ve had at other hotels. Even as Bonvoy members, we had to check out by 10:30 a.m. because we’d booked through a tour. There were huge tour groups staying here, and one evening the elevator line looked like a 30-minute wait, so we took the stairs with our young kids. The pool was packed and wasn’t a pleasant place to lounge.

The travel office arranged a day tour of the islands for us. We were a family of four on our first trip to Penghu, and had a great stay. Our room was roomy and clean, with a nice marina view. The kids’ favorite parts were the game room and pool, where they spent hours playing and swimming until closing. Breakfast was good, with plenty to choose from, including a different seafood noodle soup each day.

The hallway noise made it hard to unwind. I could hear children shouting, and the room didn’t even have a nightgown. I wasn’t expecting luxury from a Four Points property, but I did expect the local promotion’s promised room upgrade. My Marriott status was recognized at check-in, yet there was no upgrade or other actual benefit. Compared with the consistently high service I get as an Accor Platinum member, this Marriott stay fell short. In retrospect, I might have done better at a good local hotel.

The view was one of the best on the island, and the balconies had seating areas. Rooms were huge, with a spacious shower and excellent water pressure. They even still provide stationery in a portfolio. Both the breakfast and dinner buffets were pretty good and popular.
