Forte Hotel Xizhi

A really good, affordable place for work. The rooms are huge, the bathroom is palatial, the staff are excellent, and breakfast has everything you need. It’s a bit far from the main attractions, so you’ll need an Uber or taxi to get around. There’s also a Costco about 30 meters up the road for supplies and snacks.

Maybe Taipei’s cold weather is part of it, but my room stayed really hot even with the temperature set very low. Turning the air conditioning off and back on didn’t help. I’ll update this if I hear any good news from the hotel service.

It’s an older hotel, but it’s been kept up really well. The double-pane windows did a great job keeping out noise. I’d stay here again.

After a long, difficult trip from Europe, my elderly parents arrived to find us arguing with the hotel about their room. I had explained when booking that my mother is claustrophobic and cannot take an elevator, and had asked for a low floor. They put them on the 7th floor and said stairs weren’t allowed, only the elevator. After going back and forth, staff told me to cancel through Agoda and find somewhere else. This was during a Taiwan holiday, after a 24-hour journey, when places were booked up and very expensive. A horrible experience, and not the welcoming, friendly Taiwanese service I expected.
