For a budget stay in Jiufen, this hostel is tucked just off the old street and you get what you pay for. The common room is quite small and would feel very cramped at full capacity. The kitchen is small too, but has what you need to cook for yourself. The dorms are basic, with privacy curtains only on the lower bunks. You make your own bed with the sheets they provide. Lockers are available, but they're too small for a whole bag, so mine had to stay on the floor by my bed. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. Each dorm has a shower and toilet, and there's an extra separate shower and toilet too. There's nowhere to store a bike, though you can lock it up outside.

A decent spot for a night or two, and the location is good. Just be prepared for creaky beds that make it hard to sleep without hearing everyone else turn over. Both dorms share just one upstairs shower and toilet.

I'd read complaints about a “money obsessed manger” and “bad behavior” from the staff, but my experience was different. I met friends here, and the manager was kind, open, and helpful. I'd booked the wrong dates by mistake, Sunday to Monday instead of Saturday to Sunday, and he was cool about helping me sort it out. It was a great stay. Thank you so much.

A warm, clean, and really nice hostel right beside the old street, which made visiting the city easy. The rooms were comfortable, the common room was nice, and there was free coffee and tea.

The owner and staff were so friendly, and Julie the local tour guide deserves a shoutout. It's easy to get anywhere you'd want to go in Jiufen from here. The hostel feels warm and homely, has all the amenities you might need, and the sofa is the comfiest you'll ever use. Can't recommend it enough :)
