Qian Yu Homestay

The only hostel in Kinmen.

The location makes it easy to head west around Kinmen or east toward Shami and Shanwai. The owner was very friendly, and there were plenty of facilities: a refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, washing machine, and drying area. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the common spaces were roomy.

If you want a quiet stay, avoid the first-floor double rooms. We spent three nights there and kept getting disturbed, both late at night and early in the morning. I asked the owner before booking whether it got noisy, and he swore it hadn't happened. But people in the living room were laughing and talking after 11 PM, and the next day we waited until 11:30 AM to tell the person listening. The following morning, even the work-exchange people were chatting loudly at 7 AM. We had to wear earplugs. Signs in every room saying "Please be quiet after 10 PM" would help. The treehouse had a refrigerator, oven, and other cooking utensils, but I couldn't find one clean cup. The owner was very hospitable and enthusiastic about sharing information on sights and restaurants, and the prices were reasonable. The treehouse was fairly clean. I hope the owner can make some improvements to the noise and cups.

Getting around from here was easy, and the room was very clean. It had a washing machine, so it worked fine for a stay of several days. The owner is very talkative and recommends places to visit and restaurants.
