The room we were eventually moved to was much cleaner, though there was still dust and cobwebs along the skirting boards. Getting to that point was a struggle. My sister asked staff to change the first room, which was extremely dirty, but they offered another room in just as bad a state. They said a better room was available only if we paid over 1,000 extra. I came by later, saw the room myself, and asked again before they finally moved us. We had booked two rooms for family visiting from overseas. One was acceptable, but the other was a triple room costing over NT3600 a night, with stains all over the carpet, yellow marks on the sheets, and broken mattresses where you could feel the springs. We were happy to pay for an upgrade if we wanted a better room, but we shouldn't have had to pay extra just to get a clean one. We don't understand why we were first given such a dirty room or why they initially refused to move us despite having a room available. Rooms in that condition shouldn't be offered for booking.

The staff were really friendly, and the hotel was good value. We paid about US$40 per room each night, and breakfast was included. It was simple but fine. This feels like a traditional local hotel, and I believe it's been run for more than 20 to 30 years. The location was excellent, with a department store, park, and local market nearby. My one suggestion would be to add a curtain around the bathtub so water doesn't splash onto the floor. Location: 4. Cleanliness: 4. Friendliness: 5.

I was happy with the newer-looking toilet, comfy bed, and good lighting, even though the hotel itself is old. The noise from upstairs was too loud, though, and that gap under the door is so big I can imagine a mouse squeezing through. Why is the gap so wide?

There was plenty of space in the room, with nice amenities and all sorts of facilities. The bed was big and comfortable, and the parking lot could accommodate both motorcycles and cars.

I'm grateful for everything again during LNY. The guest room has a real throwback feel, but cigarette smell may be why I'd take off a star.
