WeMeet Hotel

The food nearby was a real draw. There's a night food market in the side street beside the hotel, open from about 6 PM, plus traditional Taiwanese restaurants for lunch. The surrounding spots serve things like xiao lung bao (soup dumplings), fried dumplings (potstickers), egg cakes (egg pancakes), beef noodles (Taiwanese beef noodles), Taiwanese fried chicken（Taiwanese fried chicken), scallion pancakes (scallion pancakes), grab cake (hand-torn pancake), sticky rice dumplings (sticky rice dumplings), and fan tuan (rice balls). On a hot summer day, you can also find shaved ice nearby, including snow flake ice (snowflake ice), shaved ice (shaved ice), shaved ice mountain (shaved ice), mianmibing (mianmian ice), babaobing (eight-treasure ice), ai yubing (aiyu jelly ice), and pink round ice (tapioca pearl ice). Wemeet Boutique Hotel takes up the 9th and 10th floors of a former hotel that's now closed. The floors below the 9th are vacant, for reasons I don't know. The hotel is in a ten-storey commercial building, with the department store Net on the ground floor. It's easy to spot from Ping Tung Railway Station: walk out, turn right, and go straight for about five minutes. The Chinese name, "Wemeet Boutique Hotel", is on the building's facade. The lobby is on the 9th floor, with a long front desk and soft, warm yellow lighting. Near the dining hall there's a welcoming meeting area and library where you can relax with tea or coffee and a changing selection of crackers. The rooms are neat and tidy, around 230 square feet, and don't feel cramped. There are staff at the lobby desk, and guests going to the 10th floor need to use their room card at the elevator's security sensor. For TW$1,600 a night, I thought this boutique hotel was reasonably priced for a city people sometimes describe as a remote, rural part of southern Taiwan. Breakfast is included: a simple traditional Taiwanese spread with porridge, steamed sweet potatoes, pork floss, steamed buns, salad, scrambled eggs, toast, and vegetables. It's enough for a light meal before starting the day. Many Taiwanese people are vegetarians, so simple vegetable dishes may be a welcome choice. Ping Tung City can also be a place to rest before traveling farther south to Eluanbi Cape and its lighthouse. The lighthouse stands like a warrior guiding ships through the rough Black Current of the Taiwan Strait from the Southern China Sea, and the cape and lighthouse serve as a fortress safeguarding Taiwan Island. Don't judge the city by its image as a backward rural place. It's worth visiting, and a few days here at Wemeet before exploring Cape Eluanbi could give you memories to share with the people you love.

I wouldn't come back. The air conditioning was so noisy I had to switch it off to sleep, and the staff often seemed indifferent or unhelpful. The room names are overblown too. My "delicate suite" was just a bed, work desk, and attached bathroom, not what I'd call a suite. The bed was comfortable and long enough, with a separate sheet and duvet. Breakfast had a good selection, though it finished at 9.30. There are definitely better hotels around.

We booked two rooms at Wemeet Hotel for my family and me. Mr Pan at the concierge greeted us warmly and was very helpful with suggestions for food and places to visit. The cosy hotel has excellent customer service, and its location right beside the night market is great. Highly recommended. I'll visit again soon and tell my friends about it.

The location is convenient, close to the train station, food street, convenience stores, and shopping. Still, the stay was marred by poor service. One woman gave us a cold look and didn't even look at us when we spoke to her. Another staff member took our luggage because we arrived early, but an hour later he didn't remember us or our bags. The room also felt old: cracked bathroom tiles and basin, stains and mould on the shower head, and old towels that weren't very white and had frayed edges. The young man and woman working during breakfast were nicer, and I want to recognize them. We support the hotel's green initiative, but food waste at breakfast doesn't seem environmentally friendly. If it's difficult to manage the waste, perhaps breakfast could be skipped or offered to order. Wishing you progress with the green effort and a better atmosphere among staff.
