Huan Tai Hotel

It’s close to the station and the other bus connections, and they clearly explain what’s provided. When we arrived, we got all the information in English, including details about the hot water. The place is old and very basic, so I was glad I’d brought a silk sleeping bag. There are sit-up toilets in the rooms, and hot water when it’s switched on. They speak Mandarin only, but were friendly enough. The air conditioning worked, and tea and coffee were available.

This was probably the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in Taiwan. I get that it’s old and inexpensive, but that doesn’t excuse the serious problems. It’s run-down, with small, hard beds. The shower gave cold water for far longer than hot, about 30 seconds warm followed by 3-4 minutes of cold, seriously. The blankets were filthy (see pictures), and there were no clean sheets. You have to put the blanket directly against your body with nothing in between, and they aren’t washed. Why not just buy sheets? I can’t understand the high rating. EDIT: We did not make anything dirty. Why would we? You’re accusing us without even knowing who we are. We stayed almost a month ago, and the reservation was under my girlfriend’s name, not mine. How can you accuse someone when you don’t know who they are or when they stayed? That proves you’re lying. Unbelievably unprofessional behavior!

It’s an old-fashioned hotel without a lift. The room is dated, but spacious and comfortable. The owner is friendly and very helpful, and there’s a water dispenser right outside the room.
