It was okay.

Very dirty!!!

The owner was kind and agreed straight away when we asked to leave at 5 AM, so I gave the place two stars for that. Still, there was no compensation for what happened, and I can only recommend it to people who are willing to save a few hundred dollars, don't mind the conditions, and won't need to go out at night. If you want a better stay, spending a little more for another hotel makes sense. We needed somewhere temporary a few days ago and found this place online at a reasonable price. The photos made it look basic but adequate, and we booked. We had other plans that day, so I called before arriving around 11:30 PM. The listing said it closed about 10:30, but they were still open. The landlady seemed unhappy when we said we'd need the door opened at 5 AM. The owners run the guesthouse themselves, so there was usually no one at the desk overnight and the door was locked. I felt a bit awkward asking, but we'd already paid. The owner took us to a room that matched the photos and looked very clean, though it was basic and the bed was hard. The bathroom was small, with no shampoo or shower gel, so we washed with water. The air conditioning didn't cool much either. We tried lowering it, but it seemed stuck at 27 degrees Celsius, which was hot enough to sweat in while sleeping. I let that go, thinking the room only cost 1200 yuan. Then around 1 AM my partner began itching badly. Her skin is sensitive and she reacts to unclean bedding; she was scratching constantly and got a rash on her neck and arms. We called to say we needed to see a doctor. With the counter unattended and the door locked, we had to phone the owner, who got up and let us out. Since she couldn't bear to sleep there any longer, we told him we wouldn't return after the doctor. He apologized and opened the door for us. After visiting the emergency room, we found another hotel for the rest of the night.

I was in Taiwan for the first time and stayed roughly halfway across the country, close to a high-speed train. It had the feel of an early Gierek-era hotel, with the peace and quiet I wanted. From the road, you need to go through a courtyard.
