Loosha Hostel

The area was a bit dirty and there were homeless people around, though they didn’t bother us. Just keep walking and you’ll find a nice spot in the city to enjoy yourself. The hostel itself was very good, with bed-in-a-box bunks and strong security for women. Your own card lets you come and go as you like, and breakfast is included. Everything was very clean.

The breakfast was decent, and the staff were friendly, which I appreciated. Still, those positives didn’t make up for my stay. I booked two nights but left after only a few hours because a strong chemical smell in the room made it uncomfortable and concerning enough that I didn’t feel safe sleeping there. The hotel also seemed run-down and not very clean. Shared areas were hot and stuffy, with no air conditioning, so nobody was using them, which undermined the point of staying in a hostel. I had to check out early the next morning and find another hotel at short notice. It was a hassle and cost me extra. I wouldn’t recommend staying unless the place makes significant improvements.

The shower and toilet area is spacious, so there’s no need to queue like at some smaller hostels. The location is great, but the soundproofing wasn’t good. Pick up a free earplug at reception if you need one. Also, bring a charger and adapter, since there are no USB ports. I wasn’t used to needing my room card to turn on power in the bunk. I had to remember to take it with me whenever I went to the toilet during the night. For security, I’d suggest removing the room markings from the cards, as is commonly done. If a card is stolen, someone could tell exactly which room to break into.

I’d happily stay at Loosha Hostel again. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. I liked its eco-friendly approach, which made the stay feel responsible and meaningful. The ovo-lacto vegetarian breakfast was absolutely delicious.
