Palmer Hotel

The only real downside for me was the laundry room hours. It isn't open around the clock, just accessible from 0800-2100hr. I was here one night with a tour group, and the rooms were clean and the staff professional. The rooms aren't huge, but they're perfectly adequate, so I don't understand all the negative comments about their size. It's a decent place and I'd stay again.

The breakfast was part of the price, and the main dishes changed daily, with meat, vegetables, rice, congee, bread, coffee, juice, and more. The hotel is about a five-minute walk from Taichung TRA and just steps from gancheng bus station. I booked four nights through trip.com at a cheap rate. The renovated room was spacious and clean, with bottled water, a kettle, fridge, hangers, and towels. The toilet and shower are separate, though there's no bidet, and you need to let the shower run a little to get hot water. Soundproofing could be better, since loud conversations in the hallway carry into the room. Still, for the price and location, it's a good Taichung option.

There's a lot around the hotel, with a bus stop right in front and restaurants, a 7 eleven, and other small shops close by. It's easy to get what you need. The place is always busy, but service is great and the staff are clean and helpful. Breakfast is available at the hotel, as is paid laundry service.

The breakfast was really good, with a different menu each day alongside the regular staples. From room *** we had a nice view of Taichung TRA station, and you can ask to have the room cleaned and the bedding changed. For getting around, the bus station for Taipei is a two-minute walk away, the TRA station is about 8-10 minutes away, and Taroko mall is just by the TRA station. Bus ticket offices are also nearby if you're planning a DIY trip to Nantou or other nearby places. There's a convenience store two minutes away. They provide shampoo, shower gel, a hair dryer, tissues, water, and some tea bags. The laundry area costs 40NTD to use. I really couldn't think of any downsides and would recommend palmer hotel to anyone visiting Taichung.
