CaoJi Book inn Hostel

I booked for one night, and the hostel itself is lovely, charming, very clean, and a great place to stay in Tainan. My problem is how the payment was handled. Booking.com said no prepayment was needed, but before I arrived the full amount was charged to my card. At the front desk, they said it was only an authorization and that I still had to pay with the same card. I did, so in effect I paid twice and now have to wait for the first amount to be released. I don’t know how long that will take, and I was told it could be about four weeks. When I raised this with the front desk, they said to contact Booking.com if the money didn’t come back. But the charge came from the property’s own machine, not Booking.com, so I doubt that’s the right place to dispute it. I understand they can collect payment for no-shows, but they could wait until I actually failed to arrive. Instead, I’m left waiting weeks to see whether the first transaction is returned, and may have to dispute the card charges afterward.

The common areas were clean and quiet, and the place felt like an oasis in the city. Bunk beds tucked between shelves of books make this one of the most charming hostels I’ve stayed in.

One of my favourite hostels from all my years of travelling. It’s lovely, laid-back, comfortable, has what you need, and is in a good location.

I really loved the vibe here. The upstairs lounge is beautiful, and the showers are clean, with individual stalls. It costs a bit more than other hostels, but I think it’s worth it. When you leave through the front door, turn left for the neighbouring bakery’s breakfast buns.
