EDINBURGH Motel

The bed was really comfortable, and I liked the room a lot.

I’ve been coming to Edinburgh since I was doing business in Tainan more than 20 years ago, and used to stay here whenever I came back for Lunar New Year. I’ve known some of the longtime staff for years, so I have a lot of memories here. Over time the place got a bit dated. Then lots of B&Bs opened, and since I had a dog I stayed at B&Bs on my occasional trips back instead. I only started returning a few years after the pandemic, once I checked that dogs were allowed. The smoke smell had become stronger and the quality seemed to have slipped. The traditional Chinese and Western breakfasts were gone, though there was still a range of breakfast choices. It was still good value, and when I stayed during the Lunar New Year holiday in February this year, the quality seemed good again and things felt back to normal. I was going to book for the Qingming Festival holiday in April, but the phone wouldn't connect and the booking site was offline. Then I found the sad news in reports that it had closed. The land had been sold to a developer. It might reopen after renovations, or be demolished and rebuilt. I’m disappointed I didn’t know to say goodbye during Lunar New Year. I never expected it to close. Goodbye, Edinburgh.

They brought breakfast right to the door, and it was included. The service was excellent, but the bathtub design was a problem because it was easy to slip and fall. The bathroom TV didn't work either, which was disappointing.

The room had a spooky feeling I can't really explain. The quilts didn't seem to have been washed, and I woke up with rashes and itching. The air was freezing and I couldn't adjust it. I even wished I'd sprayed a whole bottle of room perfume, but the smell made me dizzy.
