Fuqi Hostel - Yuanqi

The beds were good and the location was decent, with a nice shared space. It's a pretty typical hostel in an interesting old building, though there was a musty smell in quite a few areas.

We found the hostel a little odd and not especially welcoming. It looked like it had once been nice, but the staff seemed to have stopped taking care of things or updating them. The showers were good, though the toilets smelled bad. The air conditioning was another problem. We couldn't control it, and when we arrived it was set to a low fan and a moderate temperature. We went out early the next day and came back at 7pm to a hot, smelly room with the AC off. We switched it on ourselves and got it reasonably cool with a strong fan. Then at 10pm someone knocked, keyed in our room code, and came in without permission to turn the AC back down, with no further notice. It was set to a low fan and warm again. We had booked a private quadruple room, not a dorm, so that really wasn't okay. It was passable for the low price, but I wouldn't pay more than 10€ per person per night.

We'd definitely come back. The hostel is right in central Tainan, with a great atmosphere, lots of little places to hang out in the common area, and people around there all the time. The small kitchen is nice, and the toilets and showers were clean. There are plenty of showers with good water pressure. We were a couple in the quadruple room, which is basically two huge beds. The layout was funny, with no room to stand or sit and no windows, so mornings were pitch black. We didn't mind too much, though.

A cozy, cute place in a great spot. Really nice hostel if you're visiting Tainan.
