Gala Inn

The location was the one good part. There was a persistent unpleasant smell, possibly from dampness, and nobody was at the front desk when we arrived, so we had to knock to let them know we were waiting. During check-in, the woman at the desk seemed irritated and stared fiercely at us before starting. It made the stay uncomfortable, especially since it was the first time a front desk worker had stared at me like that.

It’s quiet, close to the train station, and the blinds block outside light reasonably well. The room itself is quite basic and feels a bit vintage.

The rooms are nice and spacious, though the bathroom floors weren’t clean. Cleaning could be better, even if it was still above average for Taiwan. It’d be a thoughtful courtesy to have a toilet available at reception for travelers who arrive before the 15:00 check-in time.

The hallway smelled like a urinal, and in room 1509 a sewer odor was coming from the yellowish toilet. The woman told me there was one room available, then another staff member kindly moved me to 1530. They couldn’t refund the remaining three days, though. This was disgusting. I don’t know how anyone could leave positive feedback unless they have zero standards.
