Somer Chew Hotel

We stayed two nights, on 30 Nov and 1 Dec, and arrived before 1pm. A young female receptionist with a bad attitude told us to leave our luggage by the lift lobby ourselves and return at 3pm, then went off to the toilet. Quite a "warm" welcome. After that, we found the first-floor toilet wet and disgusting. When we came back later to check in, a friendly young male staff member helped us and even offered to book a taxi to the train station for checkout. The room was spacious for two, the shower pressure was good, and the location was convenient. Breakfast was basic.

The staff were nice at check-in and during breakfast, and the location is handy for getting around by bus. You'll need a public transport app for the bus times, though, since the posted timetable can't be relied on. The room was decent, but the mini fridge only kept things cool, not cold, and had no thermostat. The toilet has no full-height door, so smells linger in the room. If there are two of you, be ready for that. If you want the air conditioning below 23, call the front desk. Room cleaning was extremely slow. We went out in the morning and it still hadn't been cleaned by 3pm, so we asked them to just bring towels and leave the room. When we arrived at 3pm, check-in time, a staff member had to hurry upstairs ahead of us to check whether it was ready.

I had a lovely two-night stay on April 4-5, 2025. The staff were all helpful, and Ye Xun (Ye Xun) and another kind lady were especially friendly. They went out of their way to arrange a haircut for me at a local barbershop. I left my silver ring behind by accident, and Ye Xun arranged to have it sent to my flat in London. When I called for help, he even mailed it that same day. His enthusiasm for his work really stood out. Thanks to everyone, I hope they get to see this feedback.

We spent a week in the tatami room with our one- and four-year-old. Since they move around a lot in their sleep, we pushed the beds together so they'd have more room. The hotel made traveling internationally with little kids much easier. There were toys in the room, a high chair in the dining area, and a stroller we could borrow for the day. Even on a busy street, it wasn't too noisy, and our baby napped well. Everything was clean and comfortable. Breakfast each morning was tasty, and they left local snacks and water in the room daily. The staff were friendly, attentive, and communicated clearly, even though we only spoke English. It's a lovely modern hotel, close to walkable good food and historical attractions. We'll stay here again when we return.
