At Home Hotel Ximen

Getting around from So At Home Hotel is easy, with Ximending shops, cafés, restaurants, convenience stores, malls, the MRT and a small night market nearby. It’s a little off the main streets, down an alley that looked a bit questionable to me, but the area felt safe and clean. This was my third Taipei visit and second time staying in Ximending. The hotel is modern, three-star and fairly self-service. Staff I met were courteous and helpful, offering advice both proactively and when I asked. When the lobby wasn’t staffed early or late, they sent my room number, WiFi password and main door code through WhatsApp. I was on the seventh floor in a smaller, Japanese-style room with a balcony. It had the essentials: hairdryer, heated smart toilet seat, flat-screen TV, plenty of outlets, desk, open closet above the luggage cabinet, fridge and safe. There was a shower rather than a bathtub, which I prefer.

Free laundry, snacks and drinks were much appreciated, and the staff were friendly. The rooms were clean, too. Ximen is a great base for restaurants and shopping, with Ximen station about an eight-minute walk away. Staying here really did feel like being at home. I’d gladly come back to Taipei and stay again.

I liked having a calm place to return to after a day around lively Ximending. The hotel is near the action, but the room itself felt quiet. It’s a convenient base for solo travelers, couples or anyone exploring Taipei, and I’d recommend it. The rooms aren’t large, which is expected in central Taipei, but the layout made good use of the space. My bed was comfortable, everything was clean and well maintained, and housekeeping was consistent. Staff were polite and responsive, helping with directions, luggage and local tips. Ximen MRT is a short walk away, with food, shops and convenience stores all around. For the location, cleanliness and service, I thought At Home Hotel Ximen was good value.

The shared area with coffee and snacks, plus the free laundry and dryer machines, were a real perk. The location was practical, too. We’d moved here from the hotel we’d originally booked, and this place turned our stay around. We hadn’t realized that many hotels in Taipei don’t have heating and can be quite run down in January. At Home Hotel felt modern and thoughtfully set up, with a comfortable room, no damp smell and a pleasant temperature despite the winter weather. We had no reservation, but the man at reception showed us a room, offered a better rate than the online booking sites, and checked us in 90 minutes before the official time. A very pleasant surprise.
