Diary of Taipei Hotel - Ximen Station

The service and location deserve credit, but the room was far below average. I booked a 3-day, 2-night holiday at Hotel 6 with my wife, and after just one night we left, despite the non-refundable fee, to find another hotel. I can usually adapt, but I couldn't stay there any longer. I wouldn't recommend it. Our room was tiny, humid, stuffy, and smelled like damp clothes left in a cupboard for a year. My wife got a headache. We were assigned the first room on the floor, and from as early as 5 AM, group after group of guests laughed and shouted on their way to the lifts. The room also had lots of flies, especially in the bathroom. It felt so unhygienic that we didn't feel comfortable using the towels, in case of skin irritation or worse. To the owner: the location and service staff are your strongest points. Improving the rooms seems like it would be well worth the investment. Best regards, Tan

The Ximending location was the only good part. Everything else was a disaster, and I would give zero stars if I could. The room was cramped and extremely small, with only basic amenities. It had a slight foul smell, a rusty door, and a dirty, worn, frayed carpet. I wouldn't be surprised if there were bedbugs. The bathroom was disgusting, with mold in several places, including on the mirror, hairdryer, and walls. I first thought I might have just been unlucky with my room. After seeing other guests report the same problems, it seemed widespread. I sincerely hope management takes this seriously and makes improvements.

The room smelled bad as soon as I walked in, and I was extremely itchy after sleeping in the bed. Changing the sheets didn’t help, so I wondered if there might be bed bugs. The carpet was filthy and didn’t seem to get vacuumed. There was a 50 charge for an extra pillow, and when staff brought one, they were rude and it had hair on it. The curtains were moldy too, which made my allergies act up.

We found the room comfortable enough for our family of two adults and two kids, with two double beds for our five-day, three-night stay. It had the basics we needed: air conditioning, a warm shower, and bottled water each day. The big draw is the location, about 100 meters from famous Ximending Street and an easy walk across to Gate 6 at Ximen MRT Station. It’s a practical place to sleep while you’re out exploring, as long as you’re not expecting a five-star hotel.
