Green World Hotels ZhongXiao

The laundry room was a nuisance during our visit because both machines were out of order, though staff suggested a nearby laundry service. The breakfast buffet was better than expected, and our rooms were roomy, with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. Check-in took a bit longer than I would have liked. Green World is in a trendy part of Taipei and makes a decent affordable, central place to stay.

The bathroom was very good, with great water pressure and temperature. The room was fairly spacious, and the controls for the lights from the bed worked well. But the soundproofing is awful. I'm a deep sleeper and still got woken by people in the hall, both guests and housekeeping staff.

The room was large and clean, and the Wi-Fi was the best I've had in Taiwan. A lot of hotel Wi-Fi barely works, but this one had enough bandwidth to be useful. Mine had no windows at all, and a premium is needed for a room with natural light. The location is hard to beat, right at the MRT with plenty of food and shopping nearby. There's a 24-hour supermarket about 50 meters away. The lobby is narrow and has a strong incense smell, like walking into a temple. The hotel feels old and rough around the edges, with few shared amenities. The lobby could use refurbishment.

The room condition was shocking from the moment we arrived. The wallpaper was peeling, the floors were dirty, and there was visible mold throughout the bathroom and shower. The sheets were dirty too. When we asked to move rooms, the front desk said they could replace the sheets but couldn't move us to a cleaner room. For a place advertised as four stars, the standard was far below what I consider acceptable. We checked out early and moved to a real four-star hotel. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
