Madam's mansion Homestay

We started our honeymoon trip from Taidong to Kaohsiung here, and it was such a lovely beginning. The interior felt thoughtfully done, with a touch of European style. We especially enjoyed the first-floor common area, with its sofas, wall of vinyl records, and complimentary tea and snacks. The homemade breakfast was delicious, and the space was clean, with nicely designed furniture and light fixtures. The only drawback was that the main bedding area in our room was a little dim.

The owner had some great suggestions for local food, and the house is tastefully decorated. It's a nice private place for a weekend in Taitung, where you can sip complimentary tea and listen to vinyl records. Rooms on the higher floors can get a bit hot in summer.

We ended up spending most of our time in the lovely lobby, since the room windows faced neighboring buildings and there wasn't a view. The room itself was spacious, with beautifully designed furniture, though it got too dark at night because so much attention seemed to go to the ambience. The B&B was cozy and nicely decorated, and the owner and staff made us feel welcome. Breakfast was good quality, with a choice of meat or vegetarian set meals and three drinks: soy milk, espresso, and milk tea. They also provide slippers made from recycled bottles, but they hurt to wear with socks.

That working vinyl record player in the common area was a cool touch, and the modern decor reminded me of places I stayed in Europe two years ago. It seemed like a great spot to relax, but a couple of things I experienced kept me from rating it above three stars. Getting the password for the “free” WiFi was a hassle, and even before checking out I still didn't know what information to enter to connect in my room. Also, they had promised welcome desserts by SMS, then told us they couldn't provide them because they ran out of time only after we asked. If those things don't bother you, you can definitely chill out here.
