Liwu Hotel

We came to explore Toroko National Park and rented scooters near the train station, stopping at a few places before reaching Liwu Hotel. We didn’t have a reservation, but my husband called the owner using the number on the front door. He speaks English well, and we got our key and paid without any trouble. The housekeeper lives on site if you need to get in touch about a problem. The front door is secure, since you need a key or password to get in. From our room we could see the mountains and river, the WiFi was good, and breakfast was healthy and delicious, with salad, warm raisin bread, and a cold yogurt drink. I’d recommend it if you want somewhere near the national park visitor centre.

For a low-priced stay near the entrance to the Taroko scenic area, this was enjoyable. Everything was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was quite good. The place seems to have been a cozy little hotel once, but it shows its age now. Noise insulation is poor, the water pressure and temperature keep varying, and the AC units themselves are noisy. Even at budget prices, it looks a little run down.

Good value, with restaurants close by and a short hike to the Taroko National Park Visitor Center. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was OK, though not really to our taste. Staff spoke very limited English, but the service was still excellent.

We visited in April 2023. It was peaceful and away from the crowds, further in and closer to the Taroko park attraction. There’s a bus nearby, and a phone outside the hostel lets you contact the owner, who guides you through getting in, collecting your keys, and finding your room. There’s also a washing machine to use. A friendly steamboat restaurant is right across the road.
