We planned for three nights but stayed five because Typhoon Krathon suspended train and airline services. Luckily, we were at a fantastic hotel. Our fifth-floor double room had a mountain view, and the balcony wrapped around the corner, so we could see the sea as well. The room was clean and came with a table and chairs, tea facilities, a TV, strong WIFI, and toiletries. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the lobby had tissues, towels, biscuits, and pot noodles for guests to top up. The front desk lady was kind and gave us updates about the trains. The station bus stops right outside, and the train station is about a 15-minute walk away through pleasant scenery. The beach is only a few minutes around the corner on foot. Highly recommended.

For the price, this is a really nice place. The room was spacious, with a very high ceiling, and the AC was quiet with comfortable airflow for sleeping. There are two big windows you can open for fresh air, and the hot shower has strong pressure. The free snack bar has coffee, hot and cold water, cookies, and instant noodles. They also provide bottled water, coffee, toothbrushes, and other handy basics. It’s quiet at night, about a five-minute walk to the ocean or beach and also to the old town, where there are a few restaurants. The roof has a lovely east-facing sunrise view over the Pacific Ocean and a view west toward the mountains, if the weather cooperates. It’s probably the tallest building in the neighborhood. There’s a bus stop right by the front door. Buses #1129 and #1133 go to the Taroko National Park Visitor Center. We took the 8:30 AM #1129, which got us there in about 15-20 minutes for around a dollar. The place is about a 15-minute walk from XinCheng Train Station. I’d recommend it if you’re visiting Taroko National Park. The one downside was the bathroom: only a shower curtain separates the shower from the toilet and sink, so with that strong water pressure, water splashes across the floor. They don’t serve breakfast.

If you’re here for Taroko, the bus stop serving the park is just steps away, which makes the location ideal. Getting to the local train station takes more effort, about an 18-minute walk, and isn’t as direct. The room was large and modern, with high ceilings and a beautiful view of the mountains around Taroko. Rooms at the back may look out over the ocean.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms super clean, and the showers had great pressure. There’s an easy keypad lock for getting in after hours. It’s well placed for Taroko Gorge, about a 10-minute scooter ride to the entrance, and Hualian city, around 20 minutes by scooter to the center. Free instant noodles and coffee are a nice touch. The AC in the lobby and rooms is seriously powerful.
