Grand Hilai Sun Moon Lake

After eating on the 11th floor on the afternoon of 6/7, we wanted to look around the lobby and expected a brief introduction to the hotel. Instead, the lobby manager told us to leave because we weren’t guests. I’ve stayed at many five and six star hotels, and I’m an IHG Diamond and Marriott Vacation Club member. At the other hotels I’ve visited, a visitor could have a quick look around and receive a welcome. This was a disappointing first for me.

Can’t recommend this place enough. The views, facilities, rooms, food, and staff were all top notch, and it felt worth every penny. Book half board and a room with a private Onsen if you can. We loved it.

Our Prime Deluxe King Room had a lovely lake view, and the in-room onsen looked straight out over the water. The room was spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with a Devialet Bluetooth speaker. The hotel is quiet and right on the shore of Sun Moon Lake. Breakfast was very good, with both buffet and à la carte options and plenty of Asian and Western food. We didn’t eat dinner there. From the attractive valet area to check-in, the service team made us feel looked after, and the lobby spaces were gorgeous. Even the hotel had a great smell. We stayed two nights in September, and The Grand Hilai Sun Moon Lake is one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. I’d happily return or try another Grand Hilai hotel.

The balcony was a lovely place to sit and take in the first-row view of Sun Moon Lake, and the pier is within walking distance. We booked four nights with breakfast and dinner, and the food was a highlight: breakfast had buffet stations plus dishes you could order, while dinner offered Western and Eastern fusion made with ingredients from local farmers. The hotel is tastefully designed, and the service was excellent from the moment we arrived. Everything felt top notch. We’re already looking forward to coming back.
