Hotel Del Lago

We enjoyed the quiet around this lakeside hotel, even though the busier part was lively after we took the ferry over. Our balcony had a lovely view of the lake, and the place was clean with great service. A few small restaurants, two 7-11s, Starbucks, and a good bubble tea shop are nearby. The booking included a delicious breakfast buffet with both Eastern and Western food, plus free bike rentals. We had a great ride around the lake and would highly recommend staying here.

We rode from the hotel to Xiangshan Visitors Center and back, and the views were gorgeous. The hotel provides free bike rentals, and the boba tea shop on the lobby level was good. There’s also a large platform on the lobby level with a great view, where lots of people watched the New Year Eve fireworks. It’s right by Shuishe pier. Our room was clean and a good size, the staff were very friendly, and breakfast had a nice variety. We enjoyed our stay a lot.

The staff were good, breakfast was included with a large selection, and the hotel has free parking. Going out through the restaurant puts you right at Sun Moon Lake, while the busy road nearby has plenty of shops and food options. But our street-facing room was noisy the whole time, even on the top floor. Cars from the busy T junction came through the windows, which need much better soundproofing. The mattresses were possibly the worst I’ve slept on. They were so hard that lying on my back hurt my back, and lying on my side hurt my hip. We even folded the comforter from the other bed to soften it. That sounds exaggerated, but I’m currently on a pull-out sofa bed that feels a hundred times better.

The buffet was okay, though some dishes were mislabeled. A bun marked as custard actually had black sesame inside. The balcony lights are controlled by the hotel, turning on at dusk and going off at 10pm. There was crusty stuff on the water boiler in my room. I scraped it off, but didn’t want to drink water boiled in it afterward. Slippers for the cold floors and balcony would’ve been nice, but they weren’t provided. The location is good, but the hotel feels dated, probably not remodeled in about 20 years. The bed was very hard and hurt my hips, and the comforters were old and worn.
