I came back from a seven day Kilimanjaro hike with a lot of laundry, which I hadn't counted piece by piece before handing it over. They charged per item and gave no rough estimate beforehand. After telling me to sign off and that they'd take care of it, they presented a bill of 328,000 TZNSh, or 125 USD, for two fairly small bags. When I objected, they lowered it to 240000, or 93 USD. Some bargain. Laundry should be charged by weight, not by piece. At that price, I could wash it all by hand in the sink and dry it in the room. I hadn't even chosen this hotel, the tour company did. I'm willing to change this review if the price drops CONSIDERABLY. They should give an estimate instead of treating a sign off like a blank cheque to scam mzungu.

The room was poorly maintained. The shower was broken and held together with a cable tie, and the bed sheet was dirty. At check-in, we were told a meal was included, but later the hotel tried to charge us for it. We asked them to check the cctv footage and were ignored. Reception admitted they'd made a mistake by saying it was included, yet still expected us to pay. They kept us there until we nearly missed our flight. Worst experience ever. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this was unacceptable.

We were only there overnight before a flight to Addis Ababa, and it was very relaxing. The room was a good size, the staff courteous, and the lobby spacious. There are several dinner choices and a good range on the menu. Breakfast was a highlight, especially the omelette station. I liked the bar at the back overlooking the gardens and open view, and there’s indoor bar seating too. Recommended.

Very poor service. Edgar, a staff member, wouldn't honor what we'd been promised and wanted to charge us for lunch. He didn't even check the cctv, so I wonder if it's working at all.

Our first night here, we arrived at 1 AM and weren't sure what to expect, but we were blown away. We came back to the Mount Monroe hotel three times during our month in Tanzania, and were grateful to return each time. Breakfast is complementary, with plenty of choices, and the menu marks which dishes are gluten-free, which made coming back a great experience. Whenever we're in Arusha, we'll stay at Mt Meru again. The staff are wonderful.
