We left after finding out the pool was green and there was no Dutch-speaking host. We’d booked because we wanted help with safaris and the city, and were told not to book through Booking.com, leaving us unsure whether we’d have a place at all. The host was working in the Netherlands, so questions had to be passed to her, and the reply was, “I can’t answer, I’m at work!” There was no Booking.com reservation, as they’d requested, and we were threatened as we left. No mosquito nets, and we even had to pay for water to brush our teeth. I travelled around Tanzania for two months and hadn’t run into that before. There are plenty of places at the same price with better service. Shoki Soki lodge is just around the corner. Wouldn’t recommend.

Marley made us feel well looked after, and breakfast had a homely taste. The shared room and garden are cosy, with a pool, books and board games to keep you occupied in the evening. It’s a handy place to stay in Arusha when heading to or returning from safari or Kilimanjaro. The bedrooms are very, very small, and using the washing machine costs extra. Still, I had a good stay.

The two owners were so warm and helpful, including sorting out accommodation details like a taxi. It was great talking with them and hearing their European perspective on Tanzanian life. We also really enjoyed the food, especially dinner, and the two dogs are lovely. We’d happily recommend staying here.

After a long flight, this quiet house was just what we needed. The garden is beautiful, and Cecile and Marley were wonderful hosts. We slept well in a great room with a really comfortable bed, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. We even spotted a wild Genet!

Cecile can cook for you, or Marley can arrange food to be delivered. The garden and pool are fabulous, and the guest house itself is beautiful. Our room was lovely, breakfast was amazing, and the location worked brilliantly. Cecile and Marley made us feel so welcome it felt like we’d known them for years. We loved staying in Stasumo in Arusha, and loved the dog killi too. Such a kind, friendly place. Thanks to you both for all your help!
