We were nine people and had no reservation, but they quickly arranged seats for all of us. Jamal Simon was patient and accommodating, and manager Faisal helped too. The staff were friendly overall. The food had some hits and misses. The calamari looked great and had a light, crisp coating, probably the best I’ve had in Dodoma so far. Its flavor was a little bland, though the sauce helped. The fish makange had a pleasant spicy taste, but the fish itself was fried too dry; again, the sauce made up for it. The biryani arrived hot, with onions caramelized just right, and I’d recommend it. We waited more than 35 minutes for drinks and over an hour for food. That seems to be how most hotels in Tanzania operate, but the drinks could come faster.

The rooms are roomy, but they’re already showing some wear. You can also hear people outside and upstairs quite easily, since there’s hardly any insulation. It’s a pleasant hotel with warm service and an easy-to-find location. There are two wings, and the one marked “apartment” is the cheaper option. The pricing was confusing when we arrived, but they honored the lower price I’d asked about.

I haven’t managed to stay yet. I’ve tried twice to book at the last minute, but they were full both times, so plan ahead and try for at least a week in advance. When I called, the staff were professional, spoke good English, and said they’d be pleased to have me. It sounds like a great place, and I’ll stay there next time.
