Bahari Pizza Restaurant and Bungalows

Stefania and her team make Bahari Beach feel warm, cheerful, relaxed, and friendly. After more than two weeks travelling around Zanzibar, trying different places, sights, and restaurants, we can say this was our best stay. The food was fresh and very good, and the team was hospitable, attentive, and courteous. The whole property was cared for, from the garden and houses to the furniture, restaurant, and little details. Everyone pitched in. It’s right by the beach in the middle of Jambiani Village. We also joined the Heritage Village tour, where a guide showed us the village and different types of housing, took us to a spice garden, and explained the village’s history. We learned about the many uses of coconuts in a workshop, then cooked with a local family. Thanks for arranging such an amazing and insightful experience!

We spent six days here, and the rooms, food, staff, and owner were all so nice. It was $87 with breakfast. The staff were lovely, and by the sixth time I went to the counter for lunch and asked for a Hawaii pizza, they and I were giggling about it. The owner is an Italian woman, very professional and kind. When we mentioned one evening that we’d be travelling to Stone town afterwards, she went to her office for a map and showed us the points of interest and where to find the best coffee. Her mother is the head chef and makes the best pizzas, along with pastas just as you’d expect from an Italian mother. I could say more, but you should give the place a try if you get the chance. Fantastic!

The food was a real letdown. The pizza was bland, with no depth of flavor, and the chicken with rice was so salty it was hard to eat. For a pizzeria, not having fresh pepper in a grinder seems like a basic quality standard. Service was fine and the atmosphere pleasant, but neither made up for the poor food. With these prices and the competition nearby, I expected a lot more. I probably won’t return.

We come for pizza every week, and it’s a treat every time. The seafood, prosciutto, and salami pizzas are all consistently delicious and excellent quality. The service team is friendly and attentive, and the owner greets each guest personally, which makes the welcome feel even warmer. :-)
