We couldn't stay the night and had to find somewhere else, even though we'd booked and paid in full through our tour manager. We lost our deposits, but it's okay. Several bathrooms were being repaired when we arrived, and in some rooms the shower was positioned directly over the toilet. We were told it would be cleaned after each use, but that setup didn't seem practical or hygienic, especially with two people sharing. Lilac Hotel didn't feel welcoming or ready to host guests. We understand this is Tanzania, not New York, but basic comfort and hygiene shouldn't be compromised.

The street-facing rooms are extremely noisy, with bad windows, and it felt like sleeping right on the street. The staff were really nice, especially the person who handled our luggage and the one serving in the dining area. Our room was clean and spacious, the Wi-Fi worked well, and dinner and breakfast were okay. We paid $100 per room including both meals. Asante Sana!

We had a nice experience with the staff, and the building seems fairly new. The rooms are spacious and clean. Wi-Fi was down most of the time, though, and dinner was really expensive, $15 each for soup and a main course.

Breakfast was good, and the location worked well, close to restaurants and right by the road. The rooms were comfortable, though not spacious. It felt a little pricey for a hotel without AC.
