Mocco Beach Villa

Scam!!! The place was damp and smelled of moisture, and the beds were made from wooden pallets. Electricity kept cutting out, and when they started the generator, its exhaust fumes filled the room. The taxi arranged by the hotel was late, too. Everything was terrible. We felt unsafe and completely deceived, so we left after the first night. The owner didn't even come by to refund our money. I hope nobody else has to go through the same disappointment and feeling of being scammed. I hope the owner seriously reflects on how he treats his guests.

The only real plus was the beachfront location. For the money, this place didn't deliver on service, cleanliness, reliability, or care for guests. I've stayed in cleaner, better run places in Zanzibar and on the mainland for less. I wouldn't recommend it. We paid $60 at the restaurant, but staff refused to give us an EFD tax receipt despite several requests. After checkout, they chased us down and harassed us about a water bottle left in the room, even though it was our own unopened bottle from a supermarket. It was a very odd and uncomfortable scene. The restaurant closes by 8:00 PM, so make sure you have enough food to last until breakfast. The staff were unprofessional, rude, and unwelcoming. After a power cut, we asked for a simple two-hour late checkout so we could charge our phones and pack. They had refused to turn on the generator from 6:00 AM until checkout, and when I asked them to start it, they asked, “why do you need power?!!” The power stayed off in the restaurant, bar, and rooms for half the day, even though customers pay all service fees through the booking. When we requested the late checkout, staff knocked five times in 15 minutes to pressure us to leave “because another guest was checking in,” although the place looked almost empty. Bring your own internet connection. There were frequent outages and no Wi-Fi in the rooms. The property has a large generator, but it wasn't run for guests for long stretches. Rooms were very basic, with weak water pressure and no pool. The public toilet was dirty and unhygienic, poorly maintained, and lacked toilet paper and hand soap.

The vibe felt low and dead, and the rooms were only average. Our bathroom door wouldn't lock from the inside, and there was no electricity for most of the time, even though the neighbouring hotels had power. We had a much better stay at hotels in Paje for the same price, with far better value. This wasn't worth the money at all.

We had lunch here and they let us use the sunbeds and umbrella for free. The location is great, and the place has a really relaxed feel. No beach salesmen either 💛💛💛💛💛💛. The staff are super friendly.
