The late afternoon football with guests and staff was a fun part of our stay, and the beach itself was beautiful. The beach bar also made really tasty smoothies and drinks. Kichanga lodge has a lovely, rustic tropical feel, and the rooms had a nice shower and bathroom, though the beds were a bit hard. The staff were genuinely kind and always smiling, and the manager or owner, I’m not sure which, was very welcoming and made sure people were comfortable. The reception staff handled us well when we got confused about our rooms. WiFi was fine for loading videos and uploading or downloading photos, but GoPro Quik took an unbearable amount of time. Food was average overall, with a great breakfast buffet but a slightly disappointing dinner. It’s a quaint place and I’d recommend staying here.

The pool area was nice, and the lodge is in a beautiful spot. The rooms are roomy but pretty basic, and there’s no AC if that’s important to you. The sea was often at very low tide, so swimming meant walking a long way or catching the few hours when the water was in. Also, the sunset is on the other side. The website shows five stars, but I’d put this closer to three, so set your expectations accordingly.

We stayed four nights in December 2016 and already wanted to come back. Opening the bungalow door to the beach and that turquoise sea was beautiful. It was quiet and peaceful, with the sound of the sea, good food, lovely staff, and good service. A great spot to rest, read, snorkel, or just spend time relaxing by the beach.

The birthday celebration with the staff was fabulous, and the candlelit dinner with flowers on the beach was one of the best parts of our stay. We also loved the African-style tailoring and brought that taste of Africa home with us. The hospitality was above par, we had a lovely stay, and I highly recommend this African paradise.

The private beach is amazing, the food was good, and the staff were very friendly. Some of the bungalows have a nice lived-in patina, but the place is 11 years old and could use a general refurbishment. There’s no AC, so getting used to the heat, especially at night while sleeping, takes a little time.
