The food was awful, and there wasn’t enough for the guests, with little left to eat. Service was just as bad: the staff were rude, unprofessional, uncooperative, and offered no real help. There wasn’t even a simple kettle anywhere in the hotel, and they couldn’t provide one when asked. For this price and star rating, that’s nonsense. I came with my family hoping to relax, but it turned into a nightmare I wanted to end as soon as possible. On the beach, around 50 people kept chasing us to sell things. I don’t understand why people are impressed by the so-called Masais, or whatever they claim to be. That wasn’t the cultural experience I came for. Even the activities and shows are all in Italian, which made us feel like we weren’t part of the hotel despite paying for the same things. Horrible hotel.

The good points are the hotel's beautiful setting, its northern location, and good service. But I wouldn’t stay here again if I’d known what to expect. There was a strong mold smell in the rooms, especially in the shower and its entrance. The large towels were old, and one had a dead bug inside. The beds had only one sheet, and when we asked for blankets, we got bed covers instead. As my daughter put it, it was like sleeping with a table mat. Sand covers the paths around the hotel, gets between your toes, and keeps making the room dirty. Lunch costs $25 per person if it isn’t included, which isn’t cheap. Ordering food to the room is much cheaper. On the beach, local people immediately ran after us trying to sell things. If none of this bothers you, you may be fine here. It was too much for me.

The beachfront setting at Vera Sunset Beach Resort in Zanzibar is lovely, with pretty views and a peaceful feel. It made for an enjoyable stay, though the food was only average and I missed having an à la carte option. Drinks were okay but seemed a little watered down. Our room had a noticeable moldy smell, and the room and beach towels were poor quality. Those things took away from an otherwise pleasant visit, though the beautiful location helped make up for them.

The location is great and the place itself is nice, but the service spoiled my day. I wasn’t staying overnight, and the service for outsiders was very low quality. The bar staff were rude and disorganized, and gave confusing information. As an outsider, you can use a sunbed, but they’ll make you leave the pool even if you buy food and drinks. The prices are high, with starters or snacks from 10 USD and espresso at 4 USD. They also charged 10% extra for card payment. Wifi wasn’t working.

The rooms were decent, with effective air conditioning, a working fridge, and a safe at no extra cost. Lunch and dinner were tasty, with something different each day, and there was cold beer plus red or white wine with the meals. The entertainment was the main problem. Nearly all the animators spoke only Italian, and the activities were in Italian too. They completely ignored English-speaking guests, which the hotel management should address. Drinks included in the ALL option were very weak, more like juice, and alcoholic drinks cost an extra $6 each.
