Demani Lodge

We especially love the team at Demani, who make everyone feel so welcome. The food is delicious and great value compared with some other places in Paje. We spent plenty of time by the pool, and there are enough shady spots to get out of the worst heat. The beach is across the road, and it’s quiet enough for a peaceful dip. Asanteni!

The staff are really nice and friendly, always smiling. The food is excellent! They have a live African music night once a week.

The location is nice, the pool looks good, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Everyone on staff was friendly, but when we had problems, management didn’t help. We stayed in one of the newer huts, which got really hot even with the ceiling fan running. During a power cut one night, we woke up drenched in sweat. Security said they needed the owner’s permission to start the generator. The next morning, the manager said they knew the new huts got hot and that the older ones had better airflow, but didn’t offer to move us. We slept so badly that we booked another place for one night just to get some rest. The food was hit or miss. My chicken Thai noodle dish came with Mr Noodles instead of Thai noodles, and the chicken had lots of chewy, gristly bits. The smoothies weren’t very good, and the pizzas varied. You’re not allowed to bring food back, or they’ll charge you for bringing outside food into the lodge. The rooms and food need work, and management should be more accommodating when guests raise an issue. It felt like they were trying to get the most value while putting in as little effort as possible.

The setting feels like being in the middle of a forest, and the little separate houses are so cute. The rooms were very clean, and the whole resort was much cozier in person than it looked on the booking sites. My favorite part was the pool, with the most comfortable swing beds to relax on. The staff were friendly, kind, and always smiling. I’m vegetarian and loved every meal. The restaurant food was delicious and affordable, and the place was great value for what I paid. They also put on a party every Thursday, with lots of dancing, which was so much fun. It’s across the road from the public beach and a 10-minute walk from the center of Paje.
