Zanzibar Palace Hotel

Lovely service and a good central location. The hotel itself was nice, but the 'grand suite' felt more like a larger standard room than I expected. It was big, but not quite top notch in quality. I’d expected more from a grand suite, but hey, this is Africa.

The staff were very accommodating and the food was excellent. We stayed at Zanzibar Palace Hotel for the second time, and both visits we were lucky enough to have the Dunia Suite on the top floor. The room is wonderful, with an airy, open feel. Its bathroom is out of this world, with a large bathtub, and there are sunbeds on a small patio overlooking the city. I’d recommend staying here for at least one night whenever you’re in Zanziber.

The service was impeccable, and one staff member even went to the market to find an item my wife had broken. We couldn’t believe she managed to find it! The breakfast buffet was filling and great, and dinner from the menu was very good. The location is ideal, right among everything and steps from the markets. We spent a few days here after our Tanzanian safari and loved it. The hotel is about 200 years old and has only 9 rooms. Ours had been renovated recently and felt like a sultan’s palace. The bed was huge and comfortable, the tub enormous, and there was a great shower too. Having a balcony overlooking the city was a lovely extra.

The staff made our stay especially easy. They let us check in very early and even arranged a nearby parking spot through their neighbor, which helped a lot since parking around there is difficult. The hotel sits right in the heart of Stone Town, with lovely colonial character, and our spacious room had beautiful decor, a big shower and an amazing bathtub. Breakfast was excellent too. A stylish, welcoming place in Zanzibar.
