Hotel Ligena

I booked an Economy room for the night before my flight. The room and reception were okay, but the service really let me down. I waited half an hour for a very simple breakfast, and they brought the coffee last, right when my taxi was due. The transfer cost 90 hrn, about the price of a good Uber car, and they put me on a bus with six other people. Nobody was wearing masks, and the other passengers weren’t friendly. Really bad service. I won’t stay here again.

After our connecting flight in Kiev was delayed and we missed it, we were put up at this hotel. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, and helped turn a terrible travel experience into an adventure. I have only positive things to say and will definitely stop by again when I’m in Kiev.

The hotel is worth the price. Its location near the airport is handy, and the transfer there and back is flexible. Staff are polite and friendly, and the elevator is a big help with heavy luggage. I only tried breakfast, but it was good and very cheap. One suggestion: it would be nice to have food available at night for people arriving late. After hours, delivery is the only option, and there are just one or two choices because everything else is closed.

We were glad to find a place near the airport that we’d happily use again when visiting family in Ukraine. It’s a quiet little oasis, with a store just a couple of blocks away and downtown Borispyl about a mile off. I like walking, so I enjoyed that trek. Our room wasn’t especially modern, but it was clean and quiet. We could also pay for an extra half day to get into the room early, which we appreciated after the first leg of a long trip. The staff were kind and helpful. We called from the airport and they immediately sent someone to pick us up. When the iron on our floor didn’t work, they got permission for us to use one in the laundry room. Breakfast in the restaurant was decent, though it didn’t blow us away. We liked the outdoor eating spots by the pond, ducks, and little manmade waterfall, along with traditional Ukrainian touches in the landscaping, including a miniature Cossack on a wagon. Our favorite Borispyl restaurant, Marianna, is also a mile away, in a nice little park that feels like its own oasis. We’ve stayed at a few airport hotels on trips to visit family in Ukraine, and this is the one we’ve finally found to return to. We speak Russian and/or Ukrainian, so I can’t say how well the staff speak English, though I did hear a few guests speaking it among themselves.
