Carpathian manor

I'm still wondering how I ended up here. This is a super-budget house with no service: the room doors don't shut, the pump makes so much noise it's impossible to sleep, and the lights are out, so it's cold. Our cars were parked in a shared courtyard with people coming and going all the time. Some strange friends were there 24/7, and they scratched a car door. The hosts decided to compensate me at my expense: they immediately raised the price and said I had to pay extra, so nobody owed me anything. It's complete crap. I wouldn't recommend staying here to anyone.

We came away with a real sense of peace. The house is incredibly quiet, unlike anywhere else in the city, and sits on a hill with lovely views of Makovitsa Mountain and its Elephant. The wooden-paneled two-story house has three clean rooms, each with a shower and toilet, and hot water. The rooms were very warm, even in freezing weather. We wore T-shirts and shorts indoors. The hosts were welcoming and kind, though we barely saw them: we called when we arrived, they helped us find the way, and the key was in the door. When we left, we tidied the rooms and kitchen, left the key there, called to say goodbye, and thanked them. The kitchen downstairs has what you need to cook or warm food: pots, pans, dishes, cups, cutlery, a fridge, washing machine, microwave, and electric kettle. I personally drank the tap water and was fine, but that may vary from person to person. There was also satellite TV and Wi-Fi, though I only used the internet to check the weather. Looking at the mountains and the sun rising over the city was better than keeping up with all the bad news. After a day of walking, we were ready to crawl into bed and switch off. Outside there's a bench swing and a large table with a barbecue. One tip if you're walking from the train station: to avoid following the winding road to Vitovskoho Street, you can cross the tracks where it's safe, go around the fence, cross Stepana Bandera Street, and find a barely visible passage to the left of the Novaya Post Office, past a large estate. It leads straight to Vitovskoho Street and shortens the walk. Locals know it, and now we do too. By car, GPS helps, and driving skills matter: the climb is steep and can be slippery in winter. These are just our impressions, of course, and people may feel differently. We liked it a lot and hope to visit the owners again.
