New York Hostel

I support Ukraine as an aid worker, so it upsets me to write this, but this was easily the worst hostel I've stayed in anywhere. I don't understand how the reviews could be genuine. The beds were worse than the floor, the electrical setup felt unsafe, with several extensions plugged into one outlet, and the shower didn't work. The place never replied to my messages. I cancelled and am still trying to get a refund through booking.com. I was miserable, and now I'm out of pocket too after booking another hostel, which thankfully turned out nice. Avoid it at all costs.

The conditions didn't feel worth the price, and the whole student trip booking turned into a disaster. We reserved several rooms here and a couple more elsewhere, but there was less space than agreed. Some participants were put in rooms with strangers, while those who had no bed were sent to completely different hostels and then found out they were meant to stay in staff rooms. We spent a whole day arguing with the manager about this. In the end we had to pay 50 euro for a broken kettle, and the manager threatened to call the police over it.

The balcony was great, and the staff were kind and helpful. Their English wasn't very good, so communication could be a bit hard, but we've all got Google Translate. :)

The owner was very kind, and the place felt clean and fresh.
