The people here were friendly, helpful and polite, and the bedding was clean. The mattress, though, was very poor. The surrounding area looked run-down, and the road to the property was a dirt track with big puddles after rain. For a tiny town it may be good enough, but I wouldn't expect the service level of a proper hotel, and it doesn't feel like a four-star place.

There’s plenty to do indoors and out, with a playground, pleasant walks and hikes nearby, and a great pool. The sauna is good too, with steam, Finnish and infrared options, and the locker rooms are clean and spacious. Connectivity was a letdown: Wi-Fi coverage is terrible and cell service is spotty. The hot tub also swings between lukewarm at 35 and scalding at 50.

Set between Synevyr lake and Borgava, this is a good hotel base in the Carpathians. It has a pool, sauna, Wi-Fi and the other services you'd expect from a four-star hotel.
