Le Grand Hotel

We'd been staying here at least twice a year since 2023, but this visit made it seem like our trips here may be over. The room cleaning is questionable: the carpet and shower curtain need washing, and the shower room smelled bad. The pillows are still thin, though you can ask for another. Parking is still free for hotel guests, and breakfast can be ordered. But the amenities have dwindled to two small soaps and two sachets of shower gel, with nothing else. The kettle was not very clean, there was no more tea set, and the only dishes were two glasses of different shapes. The air conditioner had no remote, and there was no shoehorn.

The room was nowhere near adequate. The shower handle was broken, the bathtub was dirty, and the shower mats were wet when we checked in. The soap dish had some kind of Fairy brand that wouldn't lather, and there was no soap by the sink. The hot water ran out, and when told, the receptionist frowned and said to wait while the boilers heated. The woman at reception, who also answers calls, sounds more suited to a rural clinic than a hotel. Don't expect a “Good afternoon, Hotel La Grande,” at most you'll get a rude “HELLO!” In the morning nobody is at reception, and the receptionist can't be reached by phone. Not recommended.

We arrived at 9 pm after traveling and wanted something to eat, but nothing was open. When we asked for a suggestion, they said, “I don't know,” and sent all questions to the director. The parking was zero, we left the car in a swamp. The room was dirty and stank, the bathroom light kept blinking, there wasn't even warm water, and there was no soap. It was disgusting to stay in that room. Horror, not a hotel, I don't recommend it to anyone or at any price!

The staff were friendly, and there is a washing and drying option, 400 UAH for two washes. That's about all the good I can say. We didn't try the included breakfast, and from the reviews it sounds like we didn't miss much. The room looked okay at first, but we were on the third floor with no elevator, and there were no slippers, shower gel, or shampoo. The noise insulation was zero. On New Year's Eve a group came back at 4 am, making a racket and knocking on the door, and you could hear everything. The room was cold; there was an air conditioner but no remote, though luckily we had a phone and could connect through that. The hot water was warm on the first day, then cold all the time. The bed was really uncomfortable, the springs kept pressing into us, the blanket was too small, and the pillowcases had holes. I do NOT recommend this place, even for one night, maybe for longer!!! Especially for families with children.
