Hotel Horizon Entebbe

The restaurant food was good, with large portions, and everything was reasonably priced. They even washed our laundry overnight and brought it back by 6am. The hotel is safe and clean, with comfortable beds and air conditioning. Staff were helpful and can arrange an airport transfer for $20. It's the best hotel near the airport and worth the money.

The plumbing was faulty, with water leaking underneath every time the toilet was flushed. There were also maggots crawling around the toilet and bathtub, clearly visible in the video, as well as cockroaches shown there. I also found hair where the toothbrush was supposed to go. This was a serious hygiene and health concern, and housekeeping standards seemed nonexistent. I had booked an Executive Double Room with a bathtub and one deluxe room. For that nightly price, basic cleanliness should have been guaranteed, but what I got was filthy and badly maintained. The old, scratched bathtub was so disgusting I had no desire to use it. I didn't bother reporting the problems because anyone entering the room could see them. They were impossible to miss, and it seems unlikely this was new. Management appears to have ignored earlier complaints. Paying that much for what felt like the worst possible room was outrageous. The stay was unsanitary, unacceptable, and a waste of money. I strongly don't recommend it unless serious changes are made.

After a full day of flying, I got here at 1am, well past serving hours. The chef still made me a great burger. That alone earns five stars. Legend.

We had to find and pay for another hotel ourselves because Horizon never came up with a solution. Since we'd booked through Expedia, they couldn't refund us there and then. They said they could credit our tour company, but the exchange rate would still leave us losing money. This ruined the start of our honeymoon, and I'd tell anyone to avoid the place. We arrived after a six-hour flight to find out that the people in our room had “missed their flight” and refused to leave. The hotel's answer was apparently to let them stay. We were told to wait half an hour, and after being ignored for 30 minutes, they said they were moving us to their “sister hotel,” Admas Grand Hotel. A quick online search showed terrible reviews for it, hardly the welcome you'd hope for on a special trip. While we tried to work out other options, staff stood behind reception laughing and chatting as if it was funny. No one offered us a drink until I pointed out we'd been sitting there for over half an hour with nothing. When I asked why security wasn't doing anything about the people in our room, staff shrugged and smirked. The lack of basic customer care and professionalism was unbelievable. If you want to pay extra, arrange your own accommodation, and be treated like an inconvenience, this is the place. What a joke of an establishment. No customer service, accountability, or understanding of how to handle a dispute.
