The Pagoda

The stewards make a warm first impression, smiling as they greet you and take your order. They also hand out little brochures with the week’s events at the venue and around Gulu city.

The Friday open mic is a real highlight, with talented local artists from town and nearby villages performing in a polished, classy setting. You can have an ice-cold beer, which is rare among Gulu City bars, and enjoy free instrumental and vocal jam sessions. Pagoda, now known as Livin, is centrally located yet surprisingly quiet, and the clean, spacious rooms are private and air-conditioned. Overnight guests get free breakfast prepared by attentive kitchen staff. As a certified foodie, I’d say Livin makes the best Simosas in all of Gulu City, and stopping at just three or four is a challenge. It has a relaxing atmosphere, good food, great entertainment, and an amazing host and staff. Travelers passing through and local regulars alike seem to find what they need here. You might even spot local celebrities dropping in for some quiet privacy.

The rooms at Pagoda on Pece Stadium Road are spacious, and room service is good. There isn’t running water, though, so you have to make do with Jerry cane, the big plastic bottles.

This boutique guest house has air-conditioned rooms with service, right in the heart of GULU CBD. Major offices, banks, and places to relax are just a short walk away.
