Hillside Plaza Hotel

Anderson, the Manager, has been very kind whenever I needed help. When I flew out, he let me leave my car at the Hotel and even warmed up the engine every few days, all free of charge. Safe parking in Kampala can be hard to find, so I’m very grateful for that gesture. I also want to thank Annet, the waitress who served me after I returned to Ug very early on 16 Jul '25 and checked into HP Hotel. I’d planned to sleep for a few hours and have breakfast in my room. When Annet brought it, she said she would have asked the kitchen to cut back on the salt if she’d known it was me. I usually avoid a lot of salt, and it was such a lovely surprise that she remembered.

I’ll be back next time I’m in Kampala. The manager is good and the staff are kind, and the restaurant food was better than I expected. I even found myself looking forward to breakfast. My room was large and comfortable, with air conditioning, a hot shower, and a desk where I could work.

The buffet was a mess: the beef wasn’t fresh and seemed well past its time to be eaten, the g nut sauce was burnt, and the greens were bitter. Even the cocktail juice was watery and tasteless. 🤢

The location between Kyambogo and Makerere Universities worked perfectly for me, and it felt safe and welcoming. Food was very good, with a supermarket, Cafe Pap, and an ATM all an easy walk away. The staff looked after me so well, friendly, attentive, courteous, and professional. They made my first visit to Kampala such a positive one. I’ll be back and will recommend the hotel.
