Afternoon tea was served in the pineapple restaurant, a pleasant room that felt a bit chilly. The service was excellent, but the food was a little disappointing. The gluten-free option wasn't quite gluten free and felt underwhelming. The gluten-free brownie, though, was divine.

We went to Scotland for our honeymoon and spent a few of our first days as newlyweds here. The weather was foggy and sunny at once, and the place felt magical to both of us. Everyone on the team helped make the stay special. Connor and Aoife at reception were wonderful, from letting us know about staff training to helping sort out some system errors. The restaurant teams were great too. Thanks to Dylan, Andrew, Rory, Richie, and everyone else who looked after us. We’re already looking forward to coming back before too long.

The bar has comfortable seats and a private feel, but we were asked to move because the area was wanted, which didn’t feel well managed or like good customer service. Service in the domes was poor too, with one person covering everything. There’s good food and dining available, though drinks and beers are limited and expensive. Breakfast costs £17.50, whether prepaid or paid at the hotel. It’s a lovely location, but some facilities feel dated for modern times, with no gym or pool. The four-poster bed was on the small side for what you might expect. The main room has electric heaters, and the bathroom has a radiator and a stylish old bath. Its window is clear glass, and the blind doesn’t reach the bottom, so someone outside could see in. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but the place is probably overrated.

We had to haggle to get a discount, which they did give us. We left disappointed and unsure whether we’d come back, especially as previous visits had been very good. Looking at a popular job site afterwards, I saw Meldrum House advertising several chef and serving staff jobs, and wondered why. We’d been looking forward to a family Sunday roast, but every meal arrived cold and had to go back. They came back only slightly warmer. One person had asked for medium-well roast beef, but after it was put on the grill to heat, it came back very well done. For dessert, the custard with the strawberry crumble was stone cold, even though the jug was warm. We also saw other diners returning meals. For the price, we’ve had cheaper roasts elsewhere that were much more enjoyable.

We held our wedding here in July, and it was perfect. Kim was amazing, keeping everything running smoothly from 8 am until 1 am. Our guests kept mentioning the kind, helpful staff, the delicious food, and the beautiful venue. I’d definitely recommend Meldrum House for an event.
