The waiter was the one bright spot: warm and lovely throughout, and we left a tip that reflected his service. The rest of our birthday meal for eight was awful. We were seated straight away, but after ordering we learned some dishes weren’t available, then waited again for the replacements. The food was so poor that five of us didn’t finish. I’d eaten here before, but this visit was well below par. At 9:20 pm, after we’d ordered dessert to mark the occasion, we were told we couldn’t have any because the chef had gone home, even though the restaurant was meant to close at 10. An elderly man beside us had a similar time: he sent his burger back three times and I believe ended up with a cheese sandwich. I emailed directly and got no reply, so I’m posting this publicly. Please tell diners which items aren’t available, and make sure the chef stays until everyone has been fed.

The Kings Arms Hotel has a welcoming feel, with historic character alongside modern comforts. I found the location handy for work or a leisure trip, the rooms comfortable and well kept, and the service attentive and professional. I had an excellent stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The pub itself is a highlight, with a really cool bar, a fireplace, and very friendly staff. The rooms, though, are mostly in a separate building and feel quite different from the pub. I’d put them at two stars, and breakfast didn’t make up for it: we waited 45 minutes for a Full English that was underwhelming. For the hotel, I’d say three stars at most.

Our dog was so relaxed here, and the staff even brought her water and a treat. We had a lovely Sunday lunch too, with great food and a kind, welcoming team. Thanks so much, we hope to visit again :)

The rooms and beds were especially lovely, and the venue, staff, and food were all just perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn’t recommend it more.
