The Saracens Head - Inn

The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were lovely and friendly. It's a fantastic place in old Amersham, with a great pub too. We also got a spooky surprise: our TV switched itself on just after midnight on both nights. 👻

Room 8 really needs work, especially the bathroom. The shower temperature control didn't work, the toilet was very hard to flush, and there was mould. The bed, though, was very comfy. I'll come back, just not to that room until the bathroom's been refurbished. It's a good place for a weekend stopover, with a nice pub, great staff, a good choice of beers and a superb breakfast.

The service was attentive without being too much, and the new chef is doing a great job. The beef was so tender we didn't need the steak knives. I loved the cauliflower cheese, and after tasting my husband's parsnip puree, I think I could have eaten that too. The Sunday lunch really hit the spot. It's a traditional pub with good food, and it was lovely seeing locals in for a drink and to watch the Sunday rugby.

I've been here a few times with mates to watch football and it's usually been alright. Today was different. As I walked in, I heard a group of guys making Paki remarks and Mohammad jokes. I'm a coloured guy, so it was hard to miss. The owners should stamp out this kind of racism if they're hearing it. If you're fine with that behaviour, keep supporting the place. Fellow coloured folk might be better off giving it a miss. I was born and bred around here, and this area has always had its share of closet racists who get braver around a few drinks and mates. What a shame I'm writing this in 2025. I thought we'd got past all this.
