Ali at the Village Inn was the real star. He handled reception, the bar and the tables, all with a smile, and made it look effortless. Friendly, efficient and genuinely lovely. He restored my faith in young people working in hospitality. Give that man a pay rise! It's a great place, and you get a room with a view. 🏴🏅😍💰💰💰

Charlie was great when we arrived, kind and attentive. We had plenty of parking, and the location and views were perfect for our one-night stop while passing through. The room was clean and did the job, with a comfy bed and a great shower. We stayed in, had fish and chips with salad in the bar, and thought it was okay. It was nice to have TVs in the bar to watch over a drink without needing to go out, especially as the room TV can be hit and miss. The kitchen fan came on at 6am and woke us, after running all evening the night before. Breakfast had lots of options, but the yoghurt and some other items had been left out and were warm. There was barely anyone around to take orders in the morning, and the breakfast staff we did encounter were rude.

The location is fantastic, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food selection is okay, and the rooms are okay too. Cooked breakfasts were inconsistent: the bacon was underdone, and the poached eggs needed longer and were still a bit runny. Paying more attention to these details could make it five stars for me. Even a simple bowl of soup could be much better with a proper thick slice of bread or a roll, rather than the thinnest slice I've ever seen. The soup itself was fab.

We had a very good lunch yesterday, with plenty of choice and generous portions. Great value, too, and the service was great. The location is beautiful, with views across Loch Long to the Arrochar Alps. It's cozy inside, or you can sit outside when the weather allows.

The food was so disappointing that we left after two nights, even though we'd booked four. I was served food that had gone off, and lots of other people were complaining about the food too. If they had a new, decent chef, we'd definitely consider coming back. The views were fabulous, the cottage was clean with lots of little extras, and the staff were lovely to us. Thank you to them.
