We stayed at The Boars Head from 27th February to 1st March 2026. The room was great, and after a very good meal we went to the bar at 22.15 to order two Irish coffees. We’d been told last orders were at 22.30, but were rudely told the coffee machine had been switched off because it takes a long time to clean. As a guest, I don’t feel that cleaning time should mean bar service is unavailable before the stated last orders. Please let me know your comments.

The staff are amazing, and the setting is stunning. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too. We come here all the time for Sunday dinner, which is generous and tastes like the sort of cooking your Nanny used to make, especially by the roaring log fire. There are plenty of veggie choices, good food and drink options, and it’s great value. We’ve had three Christmas dinners here and they’ve always been exceptional. The place never feels overbooked, and nobody rushes you off your table.

The menu keeps changing, and there’s always plenty of parking. We had a lovely meal for two today, with tasty, hot food as usual. The staff were lovely too. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

The restaurant serves generous amounts of tasty food at good prices, and there’s a quiet little lounge before the rooms where you can have a nightcap. The place has a cosy personality and plenty of parking. Our bed was tall and comfortable, and the clean bathroom had some essentials stocked. Burton, Repton and At George's Park are just a few minutes away by car, so I’d stay here again.

After getting a Twilight Session at Hoar Cross Hall as a gift, we booked a last-minute night here on New Years Day so we wouldn’t have to drive home. It was very affordable and felt like a bargain with breakfast for two included. Our welcome and all the other interactions were warm, the food was lovely, and the fires were lit. It was quiet, presumably because it was 1st Jan, with just us and one other couple staying, but the place still had full staffing and roaring fires, even at breakfast. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable.
