Ballachulish Hotel

We loved relaxing in the lounge beside the woodburning stove, and the William Morris wallpapers gave the hotel lots of character. Our huge feature room was comfortable and looked out over the loch and bridge. The staff were friendly and helpful, and one of the men in the bar knew a lot about whisky and other drinks and was glad to answer questions. There’s beautiful loch and mountain scenery from the restaurant. Dinner was tasty, though I thought it was a bit overpriced. Breakfast was very nice with plenty to choose from. The location was fabulous. Thank you, Ballachulish Hotel.

The room was adequate, and I appreciated having the coffee and tea station. The taps ran very slowly, though, and the bath could do with an upgrade. The hotel looks majestic, but it feels dark and has an old smell, so it really needs updating. The central staircase creaked loudly even when we stepped softly. There’s no lift, and we had to carry our own luggage upstairs. Nobody offered to help, which was very disappointing.

We had a fantastic time here on the Christmas package, and the view from the hotel was lovely. The food was amazing, both at breakfast and dinner. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a little smaller than some we’ve stayed in, which wasn’t a big problem. I’d recommend this place any time.

The location worked well for us, with Oban, Fort William and Glencoe easy to reach, and the views were lovely too. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was an excellent buffet with lots of choices for different tastes. We also got a lovely birthday surprise at dinner, a really nice touch. Thank you.
