Crazy Bear Hotel Beaconsfield

We left hungry and disappointed this time, which is a real change from our usual afternoon tea at The Crazy Bear. My friend and I come at least twice a year and have always thought it was the best, especially for the signature teardrop sandwiches. This visit felt like poor value for the price. The desserts were bland when I finally tried a couple of the cakes, and before that I’d found a long hair baked into one of the scones. Our waiter, who said he’d only worked there for a week, offered fresh scones, but I’d already lost my appetite. Nobody else came to apologise or acknowledge the problem. Not charging us for a bottle of still water was the only compensation, and it felt insulting in the circumstances. The sandwiches were tiny, dry fingers with very ordinary fillings, the kind you could get anywhere for much less. Without the teardrop sandwiches, the part that made the tea special was gone. We usually leave full and happy, but this time the experience felt substandard and not worth the money.

The room's rich colours, mirrored details and lighting gave our stay a sensual, cinematic feel, and made it a wonderfully romantic getaway. The Crazy Bear is theatrical from the décor to the furnishings, with so much attention to detail that every space feels designed to create a mood of indulgence. We loved how distinctive it all was. There was always another corner to explore, and we found ourselves immersed in the atmosphere. It felt like stepping into another world, and unlike any hotel experience we’ve had before. A memorable place for time together.

The hotel has such a romantic, luxurious feel, with a lovely ambience wherever you go. This was our second visit together, and it was really lovely again. We enjoyed the Thai 10 course menu, and the staff were great. My one wish is for a brighter light in the room when needed. Doing my make up was REALLY hard in the dim light. The girl hosting breakfast was lovely too. We chatted about lash extensions, if that helps identify her, and she added a lot to the experience. I wish I remembered her name. Thanks to all the staff!

The room was beautiful, and the decor and atmosphere are gorgeous. The place feels so decadent, almost like being transported somewhere else, and the staff were fantastic. I’d happily return and would like to try the other hotel. A few things kept it from five stars: there weren’t enough vegan options for dinner in the English Restaurant or for the continental breakfast. I understand the darker, moody room lighting, but a brighter setting would help with putting on make up. The coffee machine’s water tank was pretty mucky too.
