The staff deserve a huge thank you. They were friendly, capable and helpful, and the chef took my wife's allergies into account when sorting out her food. We had a brilliant birthday break, Sunday to Tuesday, arranged by my wife. The breakfasts were so good that locals came in on both days, and calling them hearty barely covers it. Sunday night's Welsh Black beef roast was incredible. The Welsh Black beef steak on Monday, aged for 100 days, was one of the best I've had, cooked perfectly medium rare and really tasty. We'll be back.

Mari made us feel so welcome at lunch, and was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. The food in the grill room was homemade and super tasty, and service was quick and friendly. Everything was very clean. We'll definitely stay at the hotel on our annual visit next year. Fabulous.

There are lovely walks nearby, and within a half-hour drive in any direction you can reach some great mountain walks too. We also had a fantastic breakfast, with plenty of locally sourced options and hot food cooked to order. From the front desk to the restaurant, the welcome was genuine and warm. Everyone seemed happy to be there, and you could tell.

The location was the main reason we stayed, and it's perfect, with easy parking and excellent service. Our deluxe room felt a bit dated, and it could use some basic additions, like sockets by the bed for charging a phone. The food next door, under the same ownership, is better in my opinion, though we wanted to try this place. Still worth a stay.

The bed was so uncomfortable that I wouldn't return, which is a shame because much else was lovely. It had a cheap, thin, hard mattress and an old topper that made no difference; the pillows felt like styrofoam. I can usually sleep anywhere, but I felt battered the next day. The room and bathroom were also very dim, and without a mini fridge we couldn't keep fresh milk for tea or coffee or drinks cool in summer. On the plus side, the room was spacious, looked over the river and had traditional old Welsh furnishings. The bathroom was large, with both a bath and shower. Breakfast was good, and the staff were welcoming. The building is pretty and well located by shops and restaurants, and guests can use amenities at the sister hotel down the street.
